Track Biography:

The North Down point-to-point moved to its current course at Kirkistown in 2006 and have held three meetings each season since then. The course is located towards the eastern side of the Ards Peninsula near the village of Portavogie.  It’s in an area that was used as an airfield during the war and hence is very flat and well drained.

Kirkistown is a very level left handed course run over a circuit just short of a mile. Runners jump two fences close to the spectator’s area and a further three along the back straight.

Our November fixture is normally the final meeting of the autumn calendar in the northern area. Conversely, our February and March fixtures are two of the earliest in the northern spring calendar.

Some of the leading graduates from our point-to-point include Simonsig, Petit Mouchoir & Agus A Vic.

Mick Goff won this race 12 months ago with Karma Police, a horse that was only narrowly denied on his bumper debut in England recently, and the Wexford handler will bid to win the race for a second year in a row with the French-bred newcomer Kanzler. The Ronnie Bartlett colours were among the winners at the Dublin Racing Festival last weekend, and his Libero is a well-bred individual.

Five lengths separated CASTLEGORE and Waltzing Matilda at Tyrella last month, and the former will bid to confirm that form here and continue her progression. Reinitinruby was placed at Tattersalls in testing conditions last season, and whilst she pulled-up in her one and only start over hurdles for Katie Scott, she could be a competitive force having changed stables since.

MONSIEUR JACO was only beaten by five lengths when making his debut in Tattersalls before Christmas in a strongly-run maiden and he would look to set the standard here. Stablemate Clough Clouds also filled the placings on his debut which came at this venue in November to give the Quinn stable a strong hand in this. Tiger Baie has twice finished third, a position that Ponte Verda also filled on his debut in Rathcannon.

WINGED LEADER had the measure of the subsequent Tyrella victor Carnfunnock at Portrush back in October, and he will be seeking to confirm that form as he bids to return to winning ways that have met with defeat for the first time since finishing third in this race 12 months ago when last seen finishing second at Turtulla. Ballyphilip was a big improver last season and it is great to see him back on track after a very heavy fall at Fairyhouse in November.

TAMLAGHT EYES may have been a beaten short-priced favourite in this race three years ago, but she could make amends and go one place better here following an effortless victory on her return to action in Portrush. Hathaways Cottage has not reached the same heights that she scaled last season, and so the danger may come from either Get Off Your Phone or Carry On Heidi, who were only separated by a head at Carrigarostig.

DRUMNASOO may have pulled-up when making his return to action at Limerick at Christmas, but he has his sights lowered here for what should be a very winnable assignment given his form in the book. He had chased home Ballyphilip in a Down Royal Hunter Chase on his final outing for his previous connections, and a reproduction of that would leave him as a tough nut to crack. Relax To The Max can be forgiven his latest outing, as his Tattersalls effort would entitle him to be right in the mix here, whilst the track recruit What A Flirth, and Vicomte Le Brave, who finished second around here in November, are others with claims.
