Track Biography:

The North Down point-to-point moved to its current course at Kirkistown in 2006 and have held three meetings each season since then. The course is located towards the eastern side of the Ards Peninsula near the village of Portavogie.  It’s in an area that was used as an airfield during the war and hence is very flat and well drained.

Kirkistown is a very level left handed course run over a circuit just short of a mile. Runners jump two fences close to the spectator’s area and a further three along the back straight.

Our November fixture is normally the final meeting of the autumn calendar in the northern area. Conversely, our February and March fixtures are two of the earliest in the northern spring calendar.

Some of the leading graduates from our point-to-point include Simonsig, Petit Mouchoir & Agus A Vic.

There was strong confidence behind MY LIFE BE LIKE ahead of his debut at Curraghmore last month. He was the subject of market support and was sent off as the odds-on favourite before ultimately finishing third. Only For Our Man has switched stables since he fell when going well at Loughanmore in late April, and he is sure to be a contender. Sky And Sand finished a close fifth in a tactical Loughrea maiden, whilst Kocktail Bleu and Escortkheops were only separated b y a length at Tattersalls last month.

We only saw KATIE DANIELS in action twice last season, but she did run well on her re-appearance at Loughanmore, to suggest that this could be an opportunity for her having ran in a Sligo bumper at the end of the summer. Currish Lane finished close to a recent winner at Portrush last time and is the obvious alternative, whilst Penthouse Poppet has also previously finished placed.

The Colin Bowe stable has been the yard to follow so far in the new season and RECOMMENDED only found one rival too good on debut at Lisronagh a fortnight ago. That should leave him as one of the leading contenders for this. Frankie Fitz and Jimbo Sport finished within two lengths of each other at Loughanmore last month and are sure to be in the mix once again, whilst Western Ability was placed over hurdles during the summer and can step forward from his Portrush effort.

Umma House victor MILAN FORTH acquitted himself well in winners company at Curraghmore recently when finishing a fine second in a very competitive race. He could be the one to go one better and continue a strong start to the season for the five-year-old. Cadoudal Saint suffered a surprise defeat at Toomebridge, when a final-fence blunder did not aide his cause, whilst Look Dont Touch beat a subsequent winner by 18 lengths on his debut in this sphere at Loughrea which has to be respected.

This is a trick race to solve with two of the principals both having disappointed on each of their most recent outings. GORTHILL was beaten 45 lengths at Damma House, whilst Au Fleuron failed to back up his Castletown-Geoghegan success when finishing last at Tinahely. Vinda Ardanza is a new recruit to the sphere having previously finished placed in Grade 1 company as a novice hurdler, and it will be interesting to see how he fares.

INSTINCT DAINAY is a well-related newcomer and he cost his connections E140,000 when bought at the Derby sale back in 2021. Expectations will be high as a result. Sheephaven Flyer had been sent off as the favourite for a Downpatrick hunter chase at the end of last season, and he likely brings the strongest form into the race ahead of the Toomebridge second Speedy Box.
